With the iPad Camera Connection Kit you can import your photos from an SD card or a camera with a USB plug. Both plug into the 30-pin connector and will hang out from your iPad. I know that is not be "best" option.
I feel that a camera would be useful in the iPad. The megapixels may not be the highest that I would want, so a slimline camera with the SD card adapter may be the best of both worlds?
